					   The Leeds International
Film Festival takes place during the first week of October
and proves more popular every year. With plenty of premieres
and workshops on offer it’s easy to see why tourists
flock from across the globe to enjoy the sights and sounds
                        on offer.

The Leeds International Film Festival is now in its 18th
year and dedicated to bringing you the best and brightest
films from around the world. Film fans have the chance
to see many productions that they might not otherwise
get a chance to see. Incredibly just one percent of films
made are actually given a general release so this is your
opportunity to see just what the other 99 per cent are
                        like.

The Festival is dedicated to bringing you those films
with the International New Directors Competition and the
Louis le Prince Shorts and Animation competitions. Offering
the cream of the crop from the UK and Yorkshire (previous
premieres have included The Nine Lives of Thomas Katz
                        - with director Ben Hopkins answering questions afterwards)
and Hollywood premieres including Nicholas Hytner’s
Centre Stage and the UK Premiere of Curtis Hanson’s
                        Wonder Boys, starring Michael Douglas.

The festival in 2003 was the largest yet and showcased
previews of Disney’s Finding Nemo. There was also
a concert by Daft Punk, and a Bollywood Gala held at The
Warner Village. Short films were shown by Leeds University
students and international films premiered included the
acclaimed Spanish film Barrio from director Fernando León,
and Aragami from cult Japanese director Ryuhei Kitamura.

Respected filmmakers are also on hand to offer advice
and give master classes. Youngsters also have the opportunity
to take part in some of the exciting projects surrounding
film and animation production with the newer Leeds Childrens’
International Film Festival that takes place each March.

Events take place across the city and last year’s
festival centre was based at La Bonavita Bar and Restaurant,
on The Headrow. Participating cinemas include The Star
Cinema, Hyde Park Picture House, The Packhouse, and The
                        Warner Village.

Those wishing to be involved should contact the Town Hall,
The Headrow, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 3AD. For more
information check out the official festival website. |
